My project this week is a free pattern from Michaels for a lace scarf. Now that fall is nearing, I am thinking of knitted scarves, hat and gloves. Their recommendation is Fisherman’s wool yarn. I chose a beautiful, golden, acrylic yarn that was given to me by a friend. So far this pattern looks fantastic in this golden color.
Here is the pattern:
Size 9 knitting needles
Size: about 9 x 69 inches
Row 1: K3, *yo, K2tog, rep from * to last 3 stitches, K3.
Rows 2 and 4: K3, P to last 3 sts, K3
Rows 5 and 8: K3, * K3tog, K4, yo, K1, yo, K4, rep from * to last 3 sts, K3
Rows: 6,7 and 9: K3, *P3tog, P4, yo, P2, to, P4, rep from * to last 3 sts, K3
Rows: 10-18: Rep rows 1-9.
You may choose to change colors with q 18 rows or remain with one color.
As I have worked on my scarf this week, I thought of the phrase art imitates life. In my mind, the pattern represented the ebb and flow of life. . The yo is such an integral part of the pattern, but basically creates a beautiful hole in the pattern. This reminds me of our experiences with disappointment, loss and grief which comes and goes in our lives. They create holes in our hearts and souls, but are an integral part of who we are. But these holes do not stop us, we keep going. The knit rows and purl rows represent the continuity in our lives, when we feel happy and content. Of course, the knit 3 together and purl 3 together makes me think of the relationships we develop. At times, I struggled with the k3 and p3 together. I am more comfortable with the k2 tog. Yes, we all know as much as we need and love our relationships, they can be difficult at times. But we work on them and continue to knit our relationships together with the knowledge that we know the pattern of life will change and we will have periods o and know periods of those holes with disappointments and grief.
But the entire pattern of our life is absolutely beautiful, because our life pattern is ours unlike anyone else and makes us who we are.
